A man leaves work one night and is never seen again. His replacement quits, refusing to say why. Glass objects start to shatter for no reason. Machines turn on by themselves. Lights go off by themselves. Accidents happen. More people quit. More people disappear. Since February, when its foreman, Pietro Rinaldi vanished, the Falcone Glassworks factory on Venice's Murano Island has become more famous for mystery than for its exquisite pieces of handblown glass. The plant's owner, Francesco Falcone, has downplayed the events, calling them exaggerations prepetuated by disgruntled former employees. However, one of Falcone's current, full-time employees, who refused to give his name, claimed that the bizarre streak of mis-fortune is very real. "I would quit, too, but this is the most fun and rewarding job I've ever had. I love the factory and I love the Falcones, and I want to know why this is happening to them." He alleged that Francesco Falcone is in truth so concerned about what's happening at his factory that he has secretly hired a detective to investigate the occurrences and hopefully put a stop to them. "We need someone to solve this mystery. Whoever the detective is, young or old, American or Italian, I just hope that he or she is one thing -- smart."0 T) h: S3 B% H; E9 j( D' J B$ ?
