Note*** There is no "automatic save" function for XP, and there are still a few glitches with this game. The Cinematic Function does not work (and will freeze up your computer to the point where you'll have to do a cold boot) Occasionally my mouse did some wacky things as I was trying to access the map...but restarting the game fixed it. Save often in case crashes, remember only manual saves are possible and then only after the patch is applied. I haven't had any crashes yet but....you never know I've only finished the first investigation. . X/ V( \3 M* ~

Whenever I start a new game, especially an "older one"; I have always made it a habit to make sure my system is clean. (So let's clean house) Our cleaning products?? No, I'm not talking about special Orange Sprays or Pine smelly disinfectants! I'm referring to the "3 Musketeers" of WINTEL Systems. They are: "Disk Clean Up", Check Disc (the old Scan Disc in pre XP Windows based systems) and Defrag. * z$ p" a9 X8 M" U
' B, l) e( e' B: N% h0 V
First, Let's do a Disk Clean Up (Don't know how?) Go to-->Start-->All Programs--> Accessories--> System Tools-->Disk Clean Up. Empty out what you don't need ( you'll be surprised at what you can accumulate!) Shut down all extra programs. (for those of you who know how to do this part...just skip onto the next area of the "Setup".) For those of you who don't, the easiest way to terminate your TSRs (terminated but staying resident programs, also known as background applications") is to right click on each of the little icons in the lower right portion of your "Tool Bar" (located near your clock), As you right click on each of them you will get the option to either "exit", "close" or "unload". Do this for each of them. Then, if you have a Screensaver go ahead and disable it.

2 d" I) ]! }! x. l# M7 I3 K6 T2 PIf you haven't done the "Ole' Scan Disk"...(in XP it's called "Check Disk") and Defragged recently here is a good time to do it. Go to-->My Computer-->Local Disc "C" ("C" is mine but your Local Disc maybe assigned another letter)-->Right Click-->Properties--> Tools-->"Check Now..." ->Make sure that both boxes are checked--> 1.)Automatically fix file system errors and 2.)Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.-->Click Start. You can follow this same path to locate your Defrag program as well or use Start-->All Programs-->Accessories-->System Tools-->Defrag Hard Drive.

You might want to check on your Video and Audio Acceleration at this time, make sure you set the video at the 3rd notch from the right --> and audio should be set to the 2nd notch from the right as well (I find that this is the best setting for this adventure on MY system. Yours may be different, but this is always a good place to start and you can increase or lower them as you see fit after the game is installed.)

Restart your system and once again close out any extra windows programs. Do this before you start the Install.

I've figured out a work around for this (more on that later) keep in mind this "setup" will get the game to install but you will still need a patch in order to manually save. This little program will allow you to view all the opening videos, teasers, puzzles and what not. (the main installer has a conflict with NT and won't install this program properly, since we'll be installing VersaillesII with Windows98/ME Compatibility. (That's why we haven't been able to see the opening video's and the system locks up at the puzzles!) It should only take a few minutes for this baby to set itself up in your Windows Media program. You should also make sure that you have the most up-to-date version of Windows Media a well. Once this is installed onto your Hard Drive you'll be able to view the opening Cryro Logos and videos as well as the opening videos for the game. The puzzles will also be more stable offering fewer lock-ups or crashes. And you'll happily miss out on the infamous error message:
