4 {4 c! L& S$ b1 d* It’s a running joke that that series creator Al Lowe’s dog ate the original production floppies in 1990. In reality Sierra had tried to create an online gaming world, The Sierra Network, a precursor of today’s MMORPGs based on Larry, which would be the real Larry 4. This failed due largely to technical reasons, and a planned multiplayer Larry game on the network was shelved., S# p( G9 @3 F; O

Sierra Entertainment has a rich history of classic adventure games as you can see. It looks like these compilations will be well worth the $19 it costs to pick each of the sets up. Although I’m left wondering why Vivendi didn’t include Sierra’s Leisure Suit Larry 7: Love for Sail! (from 1996). Maybe it’s because they didn’t want to include any games beyond 1995. / k$ o5 w1 X0 D! U' r: j0 r! K

3 q" t b) _" QOnce upon a time, Sierra Entertainment, now a subsidiary of VU Games, was the leader in PC adventure games. Its most famous franchise was the King's Quest series, which originated in 1984, but the game's formula spread to space in Space Quest, the streets in Police Quest, and the hormonally charged libido of Leisure Suit Larry. 4 B" S3 E$ X& q: e: I- l& [

However, in order to give those games a whirl, today's gamers need a computer running on ancient operating systems. ) T* j+ R4 Y* r

The price of retro gaming won't be a king's ransom--the sets are priced at $20. No release dates have been announced, but product pages on online retailers' Web sites say the games will be available in late March. More information in expected in the upcoming weeks. |
